Chair 1 is comprised of separate 3D printed parts that were sculpted in virtual reality. The pieces intersect and are pressure fitted together to create a structural body; the machined seat and backrest slot directly into contours within the frame.

No hardware or adhesives are necessary.

Our seating design efforts started out as gestural strokes painted in virtual reality, bridged by curves to create structure; these early pieces were some of our first experiments as students, and our material choice was limited to a basalt reinforced PETG originally sourced for 3D printing homes on Mars.
